Northwestern Mutual has had a presence in Omaha since 1872, and the District includes a Network Office in Lincoln. The Financial Representatives of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network of Nebraska offer access to a wide variety of products and services including investments, estate analysis, education funding, employee benefits, wealth preservation, and insurance.Career highlights for Managing Partner Michael Tews include:

 At a young age Michael Tews experienced firsthand the importance of preparing for the future when his grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. He would spend every possible weekend caring for his grandfather, trying to make him feel better. Looking back, Mike sees that the experience helped prepare him for his career. “I was very close to that situation and I never considered the impact it would have on me,” he says, “but today we’re helping people deal with the same kind of real-life situations.” 

During his management classes in college, Michael Tews began to research careers with fast growth opportunities. “I was looking for occupations in which I wouldn’t have to wait 20 or 30 years to get into a management position,” says Mike. After his first full year as Financial Representative, he was named College Unit Director of the Lincoln District Network Office. The opportunity put him on the management fast track, which included appointments to Managing Director in 1991 and Managing Partner in 2004, the latter being the proudest moment in his career.

As Managing Partner, Michael Tews is responsible for all Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Representatives in Nebraska and in several western Iowa and northern Kansas counties. “I wanted to become a Managing Partner to have a more significant impact on both Financial Representatives and clients,” says Mike. He considers his primary responsibility to be developing strong leaders and a magnetic culture within the organization.

Michael Tews has enjoyed tremendous success with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, including numerous accolades for production as a Financial Representative and for his leadership, and yet he remains as motivated as ever. “The number one thing that drives me is the legacy that I’ll leave behind,” he says. He attributes his professional and personal success to the support of his wife Missy and his four sons: Tyler, Jackson, Thomas, and Anthony.
 
Mike’s advice to new Financial Representatives: “The perfect ingredients for a Financial Representative are having a good work ethic, being very coachable, and possessing a lot of enthusiasm. If you have these things, can work well with the Northwestern Mutual Financial NetworkNorthwestern Mutual Financial Network support infrastructures, and are passionate about helping people, you’ll do well.”
